BELOVED MINISTER
FUNERAL OF THE LATE REV. W. BEATTY
The funeral, of the Rev. William Beatty at St. Mark’s Churchyard, Bemuera yesterday afternoon was very largely attended by both clerical and lay members of the church. A service was conducted in St. Mark’s Church by the Rev. C. L. Tuke, with whom was associated the Rev. W. E. S. Connolly, brother-in-law of the deceased, and the Rev. H. A. Coleman. The impressive service at the graveside was conducted by Mr. Connolly. The esteem in which the late Mr. Beatty was held was shown by the large number of parishioners who attended the funeral. In his 28 years of service at St. Mark’s the late Mr. Beatty had endeared himself to a large following. He was known for his ready wit and his knowledge of rheological subjects. It is about 20 years since he retired from active church work, but he was still loved by his congregation. The pall-bearers at the funeral were: Messrs. M. M. McCallum, H. R. Hesketh, Gage-Brown, D. Dong, A. B. Roberton and P. F'. Watson. Among the large congregation were: Archbishop Averill, Sir Edwin Mitchelson. Archdeacon G. Mac Murray, chairman of the Dilworth Trust Board, of which Mr. Beatty was a member for several vears. Professor A. P. W. Thomas and Mr. .r. E. Makgill. members of the board, Mr. E. D. Thwaites, president, and members of the Dilworth Old Boys' Association, Mr. Noel Gibson, headmaster, and pupils of the Dilworth Institute. Canon Percival James. Canon •T. Haselden, Canon E. J. McFarland, Mr. C. J. Tunks, chancellor of the diocese, Mr. D. O’Halloran, Mr. S. Hesketh and Mr. Maughan Barnett, for many years organist at St. Mark’s.
