Baby’s Debut in Auckland Film
“The Bush Cinderella’
DALE AUSTEN AS STAR Under the pale violet glare of the arc-lamps at an Auckland studio this week, Olive May, aged 12 days, made her first appearance before the movie cameras in a scene from Mr. Rudall Hayward’s new production, “The Bush Cinderella,” starring “Miss New Zealand.” Reclining in an old-fashioned bedstead, in a setting depicting the humble abode of a backblocks farmer, New Zealand’s screen star dutifully mothered the tiny morsel of humanity in a manner that brought forth praise from onlookers experienced in such matters. Olive May gurgled and kicked up her toes in the arms of Dale Austen, while the cameras clicked, and the real mother sat watching. Later Olive May was the central figure in a series of intricate “doubleexposures.” Mr. Hayward expressed himself highly pleased with Olive May’s performance and claims that Dale Austen’s emotional scenes will prove her best screen work to date.
