MR. AND MRS. F. COSSEY

Two pioneers of the Drury district, Mr. and Mrs. F. Cossey, now living in Auckland, are to-day celebrating their golden wedding. Their home is in Albert Street, Mount Albert. Mr. Cossey is in his 82nd year, and his wife is in her 72nd. Both have their birthdays on the same day, January 29, but there is 10 years difference in their ages. Both enjoy good health. Mr. Cossey, who was born in London in 1847, came out to New Zealand in the ship Persia in 1860. The vessel took nearly four months on the voyage and on arrival in the Waitemata nearly grounded off North Head as she was one of the largest sailing vessels to enter the port. Mrs. Cossey, nee Mary Jane MeKinstry, was born in County Antrim in 1857 and arrived in New Zealand in’ 1865 in the ship Viola. Married in 1878 Mr. and Mrs. Cossey took up farming at Drury and continued on the land until a few years ago, when they retired and settled in Auckland. Both 'have vivid recollections of the stirring days of the Maori Wars. Drury was the centre of military organisation. Mr. and Mrs. Cossey were for many years active workers in connection with the Drury Methodist Church. There are four sons, Messrs. F. J., G., N. S. and W. Cossey, all of Auckland, and one daughter, Mrs. A. Angus, of Mount Albert.

If you’ve lost the plug of your laundry tub or bath, a very effective temporary substitute can be made by cutting in half a raw potato about the size of the hole. Round one half to the desired shape, cover with a piece of rag and press well into the hole.
