SLAYER EXECUTED

BAYSWATER FLAT CRIME FIGHT WITH BURGLAR (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association) LONDON, Wednesday. The execution took place this morning of Frederick Stewart, who was found guilty last month of the murder of Alfred Webb in a flat in Bayswater. On returning with his son to his flat, Mr. Alfred Webb found a burglar ransacking the place. A struggle ensued, in the course of which Mr. Webb was shot in the head and seriously injured. His son and a crowd of persons pursued the burglar, who threw away his revolver and escaped. On the next day Mr. Webb died as a result of his wound.

Two days later a member of the Royal Air Force, stationed at Farnborougli, who was on leave in Worcester, went to the police station and said the weapon which was used to murder Mr. Webb was stolen from him a few days previously. He was able to name a suspect. The Scotland Yard authorities ascertained that the suspected man gave the pistol to another man. The weapon was a tiny automatic of Spanish manufacture of a type uncommon in England. On February 23 the man Stewart was arrested and charged with the crime.
