A MONTH TO GO
ACTIVITY AT ST. JAMES’S NEW THEATRE NEARING COMPLETION There is every indication that the new St. James’s Theatre will be ready for the opening performance on July 5. A forest of scaffolding inside the theatre is the foothold of scores of workmen. Painters and decorators are putting the finishing touches to the dress circle and the upper circle; this morning the fire curtain was being put into place. The early stages of the tessalated floor of the wide entrance hall are being advanced by leaps and bounds, snd the marble steps of the staircase to the circle have been put into place. Practically the whole of the outside of the theatre has beep finished and within a few weeks the interior will be complete except for the furnishings. Decorative pieces for the interior are being put into place. The boxes are all ready to receive their hangings and seats.
Hundreds of wires for the wings and scenery are hanging from the roof of the stage. Electricians are working on the wires, painters are painting, plasterers are plastering and the hundred and one other dLities are being carried out with as much speed as possible.
