EMPIRE TRADE
DEVELOPMENT OUTLINED OVERSEAS LEAGUE ADDRESSED A short sketch of Empire trade and the Overseas League on Wednesday by the Rev. W. G. Monckton, who dwelt upon the historical trade relations of settlement was given to members of European countries. The whole foundation of the British Empire was trade, he said, and the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus proved vitally important both to England and to Spain. After dealing with early day Empire trade problems, Mr. Monckton mentioned Japan’s endeavours to secure the China mainland for trade pursuits.
