“A FLORENTINE TRAGEDY”

FINAL PRODUCTION The final performance of “The Florentine Tragedy” was given at the Lewis Eady Hall last evening before a moderate audience. Wilde’s language is beautiful, though a trifle artificial. The brief story of the man who had no compunction in using his wife as a lure contains many dramatic moments. The small cast delivered its lines with proper regard for their dramatic values. Mrs. Coralie Stanley McKellar, Mr. Theo T.rezise, Miss Ethel Rae and Mr. Arthur Fryer-Raisher acquitted themselves well in their respective roles. The proceeds of the production will go to the Play Association.

An interesting presentation took place recently when Miss Norma Shearer and her husband, Irving Thalberg, visited the famous novelist, Robert W. Service, in Nice. The purpose of their visit was to present to him personally, on behalf of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer organisation and Clarence Brown, the director, the first print of his novel, “The Trail of ’98,” an epic of the Klondyke gold rush days. The author expressed himself as being amazed at its realism and with the faithful manner in which the original story had been adhered to. Dolores Del Rio, Ralph Forbes and Karl Dane play the principal roles.
