“MADAME POMPADOUR”
POPULAR ATTRACTION The court of Louis XV. of France provides the brilliant setting for Leo Fall’s bright and entertaining musical comedy, “Madame Pompadour,” which continues to draw big houses nightly at His Majesty’s Theatre. Although probably not so strong musically as “The Student Prince,” the second feature now being played by J. C. Williamson’s Opera Company has a much stronger book and the comedy element is more pronounced. Last evening Miss Beppie de Vries made another very successful appearance as Pompadour, a part which furnishes her with ample opportunities, and of which she takes full advantage. Mr. Webster, who makes a fine manly type of lover, also shared the honours with Miss De Vries.
Mr. Arthur Stigant has a richer part than in the previous production, and his comedy work, especially in the first act, is excellent. Miss Adele Crane, Miss Vera Spaull, Mr. P. Cory, Mr. Hedley Hall an I Mr. Herbert Browne also contributed in varying measures tc a successful performance. “Madame Pompadour” will be repeated this evening and for three following evenings.
