DEATH RATE IN CITIES

WELLINGTON RETAINS LEAD (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Wellington had the lowest death-rate of the cities of the Dominion in 1927. This is revealed in the annual report of Dr. Finlay, medical officer of health. The proportion of deaths to 1,000 of the population in the past year was: Wellington, 8.44: Auckland, 8.79; Christchurch, 9.49; Dunedin, 10.51. The report states that all the figures are much better, however, than the rate in England and Wales from 1921 to 1925, which was 12.2.
