NEWTON LEAGUERS’ CHANCE

To-Morrow’s Championship Games

THE chief attraction in the final matches of the Auckland Rugby League’s senior competition to be played tomorrow afternoon will be between Marist and Newton. Both thirteens have shown remarkable improvement in recent games and a fast and exciting- display of the code can be expected.

Newton, last season’s champion team, had a day oft last Saturday, and it is expected that to-morrow it will be possible to field one of the best thlrteens the club can produce. Although defeated by City in one of the competition games recently, Newton has steadily improved, and all its members are looking forward to meeting the “Tykes.” Marist, on the other hand, favoured with a good, hard-working and bustling pack, and a strong rearguard, haye perhaps shown more improvement in recent games than the Newtonians, and certainly the odds appear in their favour. City and Richmond will meet on No. 2 area, and it is just likely, after the poor showing that the youthful Richmond Leaguers made against Ellerslie last Monday, that City will prove a hard proposition. Over at Devonport the Shore seniors will meet Ellerslie, but It seems hardly possible that the seasiders will have their unbeaten record tampered with by the newly-promoted side.
