FAREWELL TO MAGISTRATE

MR. LEVIEN COMING TO AUCKLAND (From Our Oion Correspondent) WHANGAREI, To-day? Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., who has been in charge of the Whangarei Magistrate’s Court and who is joining the Auckland circuit, was the subject of complimentary reference in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Mr. W. Carruth, senior member of the Whangarei Bar, expressed his appreciation of the uniform consideration and fairness of Mr. Levien’s decisions, and on behalf of the Bar extended his felicitations. He believed Mr. Levien would find in his new sphere less trying and arduous work than in the North Auckland circuit, with the many journeys, often under unfriendly weather conditions. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady spoke similarly, on behalf of the Police Department. Mr. Levien said he ha.d been in touch with the courts of the North for nearly 10 years, and he had watched the steady progress of the North, which was reflected by the growing work of the courts. He said he had many unique opportunities of observing details which escaped the attention of others, and he felt assured there was a great future of prosperitj* for North Auckland.
