THE MAN WITH THE BATON
With the Williamson - Melba Opera Company, shortly to visit New Zealand, will come Commendatore Gaetano Bavagnoli, a distinguished conductor, famous in many countries besides Italy. He is widely known, especially for his magnificent interpretation of the works of Puccini, his great friend, whose works he conducted at his funeral. This caricature, reprinted from the Melbourne “Herald,” was drawn by Fernando Autori, a basso in the company, and a clever caricaturist.
