CHATHAM CUP

FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION STILL DIVIDED SCHOOLBOYS’ TOUR

At the meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Football Association last evening, the Tramway Club delegate, Mr. Drew, again raised the question of any Auckland team, in the event of winning its way into the Chatham Cup final, being able to travel South at its own expense. He said he had heard Thistle Club officials state that that club had no chance of financing a Southern tour should it be called upon to do so. The secretary said that all the entrants for the competition had assured him they would fulfil their engagements. It was decided to inform all entrants that their £1 Is entrance fee and a written assurance of their ability to undertake a trip South if necessary must be in the hands of the secretary by Tuesday next. CHALLENGE SYSTEM A letter was received from the Council of the New Zealand Football Association stating that the challenge system had been introduced into the English trophy competition. The home association in all matches would pay the visiting team’s expenses and take all the gate receipts. Mr. Menzies said he was surprised at the decision of the New Zealand Council. If such were the condition, he thought Auckland would do better without a match, and let them do what they like with the trophy. The committee decided to reply to the council pressing for a decision as to who are holders of the trophy, pointing out that that must be decided before other arrangements are made. The holders of the trophy would then be entitled to the match on their home ground if they desired it. SCHOOLBOYS’ TOUR The New Zealand Council came in for severe castigation at the hands of Mr. R. B. Harrison over its arrangements for the tour of New Zealand schoolboys to Australia. It was farcical, he said, to suggest that the team could be taken all over New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia in three weeks. At least a week more would be required in Australia. Then again the methods of selection capped all. Two selectors were to b© appointed in the North Island, and two in the South Island, and the chairman would be appointed by the New Zealand Association. It could easily be seen, therefore, that that would amount to the New Zealand Association selecting the team. The council had allowed two days for training before sailing for Australia Mr. Harrison maintained that the team could not be properly trained in two days. The committee decided to reply to the New Zealand Council to that effect, stating that under the present arrangements, it could not see its way clear to support the tour, as much as it desired to. The chairman, Mr. Andrew Menzies. and Mr. Wilkes were appointed delegates to represent the Auckland Football Association at a conference with the Auckland Rugby Union and the Auckland Rugby League with regard to unfinaneial and disqualified players from one code playing with another code. Entries for the Falcon Cup competition, open to any team in any grade, close on Tuesday week. An appeal from the Onehunga Club against the one month’s suspension imposed on Terry was referred to the -judical committee. Ritchie, Onehunga, was transferred to iakamni, and H. Hall, Onehunga, S Doree, and C. Canty, North Shore, were transferred to Northcote. SOCCER FIXTURES ' Following is the draw for Saturday’s matches:— Senior Grade.—Ponsonby v.
