DRAINAGE INTO MANUKAU
NEW WORKSHOPS’ SEWAGE HARBOUR BOARD ATTITUDE The question of the discharge of sewage from the new railway workshops at Otahuhu into the Manukau Harbour is still exercising the attention of the Harbour Board. At its meeting yesterday a letter was received from the district engineer of railways stating that the Otahuhu Borough Council had declined to allow discharge of sewage into the borough’s system as suggested by the board. Application was therefore renewed to be allowed to discharge into the Manukau from septic tanks. The board replied that it considered that the number of outlets for drainage, especially into the upper area of the harbour, should not be increased unless absolutely necessary. It was suggested that arrangements should be made between the Railway Department and the Otahuhu Borough Council for the latter to take the drainage.
Liability was disowned in accordance with the harbourmaster’s report,
