GAY CLOSING SCENES
WAIKATO WINTER SHOW GATE TAKINGS BEAT LAST YEAR (From Our Oicn Correspondent) HAMILTON, Tuesday. Up till Saturday the takings at the Waikato Winter Show were down on last year’s figures by about £3OO. This was due to the general holiday occurring in the first week last year. Yesterday, however, brought the figures beyond the 1927 total. To-day’s takings amounted. to £2ll, bringing the total for the seven days of the show up to £2,621, over £SOO in excess of the takings last-year. Visitors to the show have been more' lavish in their praise of the exhibits and their display than in the past, some overseas people claiming that in no country in the world have they seen the produce of the dairying industry in particular displayed to such advantage. Yesterday was the most successful day of the period, trains arriving from all quarters loaded with passengers. At one time the queue of ticket-seek-ers stretched half-way down Ward Street.
The show has been fairly well patronised to-day, and a great crowd made merry to-night before the closedown. Streamers and balloons were given away by some stallholders and when some of the more exuberant spirits raised their voices in song and threw streamers wildly in all directions indescribable scenes took place. It was long after 10.30 before the crowds dispersed and the show closed its doors for another year.
