GREAT DAMAGE BY FROST

VINEYARDS OF GERMANY ( United P .1 . —By Telegraph — Copyright) t Australian Press Association) Reed, y. 5 a.m. LONDON, Saturday. Great damage has been done to the vineyards in Germany by the frost, which is the most widespread and destructive since 1871. On the Moselle, the damage is said to amount from 70 to 90 per cent. In the Ruhr district, the yield is not expected to exceed 10 per cent, of the average, and in the Saar district 25 per cent. So serious is the loss that a Reichstag member for one of the affected districts appealed to the Government to remit the taxes for those affected, and grant loans at low rates of interest to enable the wine-growers to repair the losses.
