FROCKS at Ellerslie to-day happily combined comfort with the utmost chic, and emphasised the importance of graceful lines, even in the strictest tailleurs. Sports frocks cheerfully united tweeds and silken stuffs and for the most part adhered to the three-piece motive.
Time was when artificial jewellery did not enter at all into the decorative scheme of the smart ivoman. Now its artistic value is such a self-evident proposition that it is seriously rivalling its more costly relations. Synthetic pearls, exquisite in colour and shape and other reproductions of precious stones, delicately and beautifully set were perfect expressions of the craftsman’s art and were seen in infinite variety at Ellerslie. Among those present were: Mrs. J. G. Coates was wearing a smartly-tailored suit of black french cloth and a black hat with a wrap of fur. Ladv Elliot chose a black and blush ■rose frock, with small black cloche and moleskin coat. . Lady Nolan, who wore a parma violet ensemble of french cloth, with golden brown furs and violet hat. Miss Nolan was wearing a japoniea rose tailored suit, with cedar rose hat and fox furs. Lady Lockhart chose a black and pearl grey frock, with matching coat and black hat with velvet trimming. Lady Stringer wore a navy blue braided geoi'gette frock under a sealskin coat, with a hat of mole velvet. Mrs. O’Brien was in a midnight blue crepe faille frock, with fur wraps and amethyst hat.
Mrs. Thorneycroft was wearing an ensemble of biscuit-shaded mariette with a hat to tone. Mrs. A. C. Day wore a black ensemble of repp with grey furs and a black hat. Mrs. R. Wilson, was wearing a r<3se patterned and navy blue crepe de chine frock with a fur wrap and navy hat. Mrs. W. S. Spence wore a navy blue tailored suit with lighter blue relief and cedar brown hat. Mrs. W. F. Boyle, lacquer red ensemble with fur relief and wide brimmed liat. Mrs. Bruce Hay, silver grey chenille frock, fur coat and grey hat.
