LUNAR ECLIPSE

FINE NIGHT AT AUCKLAND DELICATE COLOUR TINTS A crisp, clear night afforded Aucklanders an admirable opportunity to inspect the total eclipse of the moon last evening, and many people watched the progress of the shadow cross its face. The eclipse commenced early in the evening, and did not pass entirely until the early hours of this morning. Toward midnight the whole face of the moon was covered by the shadow, and those who watched its slow passage discerned a magnificent variety of delicate colour tints which changed with the movement of the eclipse. About 1 o’clock this morning about half the moon was clouded, and the edges of the shadow were tinged with a pale blue. The moon at this time was directly above the city, and not a cloud appeared in the sky.
