Gisborne’s Generosity

PERMIT GIVEN TO HAWKE'S BAY

Hastings En Fete on Monday

AVERY interesting programme of events will come up for decision at Hastings on Monday when the Hawke's Bay Trotting Club will stage the second fixture for the season. Owing to several horses from the Auckland province being engaged there will be widespread interest in the proceedings.

' Finding that the light to keep the i trotting flag flying at Gisborne devolved upon the few willing workers the Poverty Bay Club reluctantly threw in the towel, but in handing back the permit, made the generous recommendation that it be awarded ; to the next-door neighbour, the j Hawke’s Bay Club. This met with j the approval and sanction of the i powers that rule in this direction, and | the permit will be utilised on Monday j at Hastings where an interesting day’s | sport will be provided for patrons. This is not the first occasion on which winter trotting has been indulged in by the East Coast club, the 1925 fixture, when Padlock won the cup, being held on May 30. The following | year when The Shrew won the chief event the meeting was held in January but owing to Poverty Bay holding no function that year, Hawke’s Bay again benefited, and a King’s Birthday fixture eventuated. Marshal Neil capturing the East Coast Handicap. Proceedings will commence with a race for improvers, the CLIVE HANDICAP Of £120; 3.45 class; lj miles i Vel Locanda . Lt Logan’s Pride Lt ! Great Eyre is one that can begin quickly, but up to the present she has stopped just as quickly after travelling a fair portion of the journey. She figures in three events on the card so it is hard to say which will be her mission. Regret is another that hits the front smartly, but has failed to go on all the way. Tawa King is a promising sort and Vanity Boy may have improved since his last, outing, Single Mint has been under a cloud 1 but if right she should have a show. Insurance will be in the limelight, too. ' Huia Maid showed promise at Wanga- . nui and Rosie Thorpe will keep all ' hands busy. Ngahuia has not fulfilled her early promise so far and Hilltop and Great Delight have a solid task. ROSIE THORPE and GREAT EYRE . will find plenty of support and INSURANCE will not be friendless. Of this trio the latter, who won at his only start, may be the most troublesome. May Rita is speedy, but erratic, but the showing of the Peter - wall youngster, Great Way, will be watched with interest. Brent’ Boy is on the improve and will make things interesting, while Tui Bells may elect to upset the pot. King Peter knows the track well and Wakefield and Call Bov will keep those in front moving. RANGITERO and AKENEHI will probably be favourites with support . for GREAT WAY. The next item to claim the attention of spectators is the NAPIER HANDICAP Of £120; 3.40 class; 1£ miles Drift Wave . . Behind • this bunch is a couple that will keep 1 the field busi’ - —Logan Star and Indi--1 cator—and anything that heads them off will require to go fast. Ce Advan- • ceur went sound races at Wanganui and Hawera and is sure to be in the picture. Lady Jewel won at Taranaki. s Halmore has not been heard of for some time. Fliton is well placed and > Welcome Pearl won well in the River City recently. Dealer claims other engagements, but if lie tackled this heat could add a heap of interest to the I result. LOGAN STAR should appeal most and INDICATOR and CE ADVANCEUR will have a good follow- • ing. Haerenga ' Pai looks the pick of the second row, • and as the filly is all right again, and l doing good work, she must take a lot of heading off. Hostess is a solid pacer ' and will fight the issue out to the bitter end and she also has winning

form to recommend her. Raima is the trotter of the field and will prove a good representative of the squaregaiters. Kevin Brae is nicely placed and if it happens to be his day on will be on deck when it comes to the finish. Andover appears the best of those further back, but HAERENGA PAI promises to be the public fancy with HOSTESS and DEALER well supported. Lt Practically all those qpgaged in this go claim an earlier engagement and the form of the competitors in the Clive and Napier Handicaps should give the clue to the result. Ngahuia will go well from the front and Rosie Thorpe and Great Eyre will begin well and should play a prominent part in the running. Huia Maid is another likely to be in the picture. Further back Logan Star appears again and is nicely situated, and if he escapes a penalty earlier wall make amends in this heat. Vailamont is one that must, be taken seriously and he can cut out a good 10 furlongs when keyed up to concert pitch. Ce Advanceur is also a possibility, but LOGAN STAR if reserved for this item will have a good following, with plenty of friends for ROSIE THORPE and HUIA MAID.

King Peter will go a solid race, while the backmarkers will find the extra half-mile all in their favour. CALL BOV has been consistent of late and will probablv be the first fancy of backers, while WAKEFIELD and BRENT BOY will also be in demand. The numbers will be hoisted for the j last time in the next event, and specu- j lators will look for a recovery in the j JUNE HANDICAP Of £130: 2.40 class; 9 furlongs Native Hero . If Haerenga Pai misses the thick end of the stake in the chief heat, she will be hard to dispose of here. Then there is Worthy Bingen to be considered, and while he is short of racing, may be sufficiently forward to be there at the finish. Native Hero will find the distance to his liking. Further back Andover and Hal Huon will make a good showing. If the former hits the trail correctly he will hustle the opposition along, and Hal Huon has a lot of speed for such a journey. The Shrew is a fine mare and those in front will require to step fast to keep out of her road. WORTHY BINGEN may be well supported and HAERENGA PAI and HAL HUON must claim a lot of atention.
