“A FLORENTINE TRAGEDY”
OSCAR WILDE PLAY NEXT WEEK Oscar “Wilde's remarkably gripping and fascinating play, “A Florentine Tragedy,” will be presented at Lewis Eady Ltd’s. Hall on Wednesday and Thursday next by a talented cast headed by Mr. Theo Trezise. “A Florentine Tragedy” is probably one of the most powerful single-act tragedies ever written, and holds the audience spellbound from the rising of the curtain to the tremendous climax. The central player Simone, the merchant, in whom there is combined both hatred and justice, is no more ramarkable a study than his wife Bianca, whose moods are many and varied. Nor are these characters alone, for the master playright has also cast in this play such diverse characters as Guido, Prince of Florence, a gay irresponsible cavalier, and Maria, confidential maid of Bianca, whose humour and love of intrigue are part of her being. Despite the charm and romance of the story, however, the sinister undercurrent is always there.
Florentine and early Italian antiques of rare value have been secured .and nothing overlooked in the way of furnishing, stage lighting, and effects to give the correct atmosphere to this gem of English blank verse. Among the actors taking part in the performance will be Mrs. Coralie Stanley McKellar, Miss Ethel Rae, and Messrs. Theo Trezise and FryerRaisher. The proceeds are being devoted to the funds of the Play and Recreation Association.
