SUITCASE ON ROAD
TWO MEN TRY TO SELL CONTENTS TWO MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT (Special to THE SUN) TE AWAMUTU, Thursday. Two young men, James Sullivan and James Robert Williams, alias Shaw, were charged in the Police Court today, after having been on remand, with being idle and disorderly. The police asked leave to withdraw the charge and substitute one of theft, alleging that accused had stolen the contents of a suitcase worth £25 7s. According to the evidence, Williams and Sullivan found a suitcase which had fallen off a car. They hid it in a blackberry bush, and later tried unsuccessfully to sell the contents. Both accused pleaded guilty and elected to be dealt with summarily. The police said Sullivan was an old offender. Shaw was on probation in connection with a burglary at Whakatane two months ago. The accused were sentenced to imprisonment for two months.
