MAJESTIC
“DRESSED TO KILL” There is diversity in plenty in the new programme to have its initial presentation at the Majestic Theatre this evening, for there is a big array of pictorial attractions, headed by “Dressed to Kill,” the great mystery melodrama. Edmund Lowe, remembered for his splendid work in “What Price Glory?”
plays the role of ‘•Mile Away Barry,” the master crook, debonair, immaculately dressed, perfectly groomed, patron of the opera and night clubs, and consort of silken ladies, in direct contrast to the accepted type of
Mary Astor thug who sneaks up a dark alley and belays his victim with a blackjack. Ben Bard is his chief assistant, a.ncl Mary Astor plays the leading feminine role, adding her refreshing beauty to the picture, while Charles Morton plays opposite her in the romantic role. There is much to commend this delightful entertainment. Thrills, laughter, suspense, and heart interest, and a story out of the ordinary, that retains its interest from begininng to end. Included among the brilliant array of additional attractions is a very bea.utiful New Zealand scenic film, “Queen of Rivers,” the Wanganui, which rises in the snow-fed slopes of Mount Ruapehu, and winds its way through a thousand scenic beauties towards the Tasman Sea; views of the 1928 Springboks in action, showing scenes of the four elimination tests played on the actual grounds where our All Blacks will meet their famous, rivals; the Majestic Magazine, with scenes of a long-hair competition; new modes in spring frocks; the visit of the King of Afghaniston to the British Fleet: boat-racing on the Thames; and, last but not least as far as Eve is concerned, is a beautifully coloured film entitled “Dresses—Morning, Noon, and Night..” Concluding the pictorial supporting programme is the latest Fox comedy. “Reno,” acclaimed throughout Australia and New Zealand as the master player of the xylophone, will present a popular programme that will delight music-lovers, and will demonstrate his marvellous skill and artistry. Another magnificent musical programme will be presented by Mr. J. Whiteford-Waugh, and his Majestic Orchestra, a special orchestral score having been_arranged for the musicians by their musical director. “Skirts” has been selected as the final title of the new picture starring Syd. Chaplin, and formerly known as “A Little Bit of Fluff.” This picture was recently made in England, and is a screen version of Walter TV'. Ellis’s well-known fai’ce. Betty Balfour, famous British actress, plays the leading feminine role. Ben Travers, the wellknown English author of “Rookery Nook,” and “The Cuckoo in the Nest” collaborated with Chaplin in the new picture.
