Yugo-Slav Feeling Further Inflamed
HOSTILITY TO ITALY MORE WILD DEMONSTRATIONS (Australian Press Association) Reed. 9.5 a.m. BELGRADE, Wednes. Despite severe precautions, further anti-Italian demonstrations have occurred in the leading cities. At the National Theatre, Belgrade, men In the gallery, chiefly students, cheered France, and indulged in hostile cries against Italy. The Foreign Minister, Dr. Marinkovitch, who was occupying a box with the French Ambassador, immediately quitted the place. The police dispersed demonstrators outside, and there were several arrests. The rector has closed the university for three days, owing to collisions with the police. Mounted gendarmerie charged the demonstrators at Serajevo, arresting 25. The Nationalist organisation meets at Belgrade on June 3, and will protest against the events at Zara.
ITALIAN VERSION WARNINGS NOT HEEDED (Australian P.A.—United Serviced Reed. 9.5 a.m. ROME, Wednesday. The official version of the antiItalian riots at Spalato asserts that despite Italian warnings of the need of precautions, the Yugoslav authorities allowed 500 students and Apaches to run through the entire town, completely ruining numerous shops. Notwithstanding protests, there was a renewal the following day, also outbreaks at Sebenico, Ragusa, Zagres. and Belgrade. In consequence of the students’ riots, the Italian Government has presented a Note to the Yugoslav Government demanding ipimediate reparation for damage to Italian property, and that effective steps shall be taken to prevent a repetition of the disturbances.
