BEAUTY SLOGAN
LAW CASE IN BRITAIN LONDON, May 19. A West End beauty specialist, Dr. Sinanide, used the slogan, “Youthful appearance is a social necessity, not a luxury.” He claimed to have been the inventor of the slogan, and obtained an injunction in the lower Court against a rival beauty house, Maison Kosney, otherwise Charles Brown, who was employing a similar slogan. The case was taken to the Court of Appeal. “This is a dispute between two beauty specialists, trading with a large number of people who possess money without brains,” said Mr. Justice Scrutton. He added: “Sucb people are prepared to spend money attempting to improve the face.” Mr. Justice Scrutton pointed out that a third beauty specialist used “Youthful appearance is a modern necessity” long before Dr. Sinanide’s slogan. Brown’s appeal was unanimously allowed, the Court holding that there was no copyright.
