“FLAG DAY” COLLECTION
DEVONPORT APPEAL WEATHER AFFECTS RESULTS Inclement weather on Saturday interfered with the success of the “Flag Day” street collection, organised by the Devonport Ex-Servicemen’s Association, when only £3l 3s was raised, compared with £IOO last year. The money is to be handed to the Devonport " Borough Council, which will subsidise it £ for £. The Ex-Servicemen’s Association, which was founded last year, is presided over by Captain W. E. Napier, and Mr. E. A. Wilson, town clerk of Devonport, is secretary. The money raised on Saturday will be added to the Poppy Day funds voted to Devonport, and be used for park formation purposes at Melrose.
It is hoped to obtain a Government grant to augment the money thus available for relief of unemployment. The secretary asks Ex-servicemen in Devonport who may be in search of employment to communicate with him. A “Picture Week” and a carnival are to be promoted shortly to raise other funds.
