NO REDUCTION
MILKING-MACHINE CHARGES POWER BOARD’S DECISION At this morning’s meeting of the Waitemata Electric-Power Board, presided over by Mr. J. W. Hayden, a recommendation was received from the Mairetahi Ratepayers’ Association that the charges for milking-machine motors be reduced. June and July were months when these motors were little in use, and the flat rate should then be subject to a rebate. Mr. A. E. W. Wilson, engineer, suggested that the subject be reconsidered next year and that no reduction be made in the meantime, and the board decided accordingly. In considering questions of financial assistance, . Mr. T. Lamorit protested against the board helping unless reasonable security was offered. “It is not our money we are dealing with,” he said. “We should take no risks.” Members considered, however, that the board was justified in taking as much risk as private firms, who when selling electrical accessories certainly did not ask for a mortgage on the purchaser’s house.
