Printed Silks

One-Sided Effects FASHION'S NEW NOTES Printed silks are starring and small prints are favoured. Frocks subscribe to generous pleating, tiers and flounces, ; and in many instances are comple- j mented by a silk coat, lined with print. ! Chiffon and taffeta continue to be of ! most importance in current evening fashions reviewed at the theatre in j Paris and New York. * * * Instead of the conventional navy buyers are choosing a somewhat lighter crayon sho.de for ensembles. Unusual collar and cape treatments are an arresting feature of new coats. One-side effects are especially outstanding, such, for instance, as a straightline coat of black satin, lined with rose-coloured crepe, which introduces an upstanding collar of black monkey fur and a cape drapery, over one shoulder only, bordered with sirni- ! lar fLir and lined with rose crepe. An interesting style detail on another black satin coat is a one-sided capelet counterbalanced at the other side of the front by a long, graceful rever. A large collar of grey squirrel comi pletes it. The interest shown in clear bright greens was emphasised at a dinner party, when a dress with the sloping seams at the waistline terminating in a dippu- panel was done in jade green lace. The shoes were of multi-col-oured metal brocade, in which the green tones of the dress predominated.
