GRAND
BIG DOUBLE BILL Ihe first feature on the programme now being shown at the Grand Theatre is “Quality Street,” a gay, glowing, glamorous screen version of Sir James M. Barrie's famous romance, with Marion Davies in a truly superb portrayal. Little of the charm of Sir James Barrie’s noted play has been lost in its transition to the screen. Barrie concentrated his play into the Throssel drawing room, and the director has kept it there. It is infrequently that such a noted play finds its way to the screen. Most stars would have been afraid to tackle the role of Phoebe Throssel, and their fear would have been well grounded. It took master work for as good a portrayal as Marion Davies- has given such a . difficult work. The part called for comedy, pathos and straight drama—and it has them all. Conrad !Nagel does good work as the Barrie hero. Tim McCoy, in “The Law of the Range,” is the second feature.
