POPULAR OFFICER
FAREWELL TO SERGEANT WATERMAN The large crowd 1 , which packed the Leys Institute last evening was proof of the popularity of Sergeant F. A. Waterman, who has retired from the Police Force after being in charge of the Ponsonby Station for some years.
It was the occasion of a presentation to Sergeant and Mrs. Waterman. Mr. C. F. Bennett presided. Others who attended were Inspector J. Hollis, as a representative of the police, and Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M. Mr. Bennett mentioned that the occasion was most appropriate, as it was the 31st anniversary of the date on which the guest of the evening joined tho police force. He paid a tribute to Sergeant Waterman’s conscientious work and his ability as an officer. On behalf of those present, Mr. Bennett presented Sergeant Waterman with a splendid grandfather clock, and Mrs. Waterman with a gold wristlet watch. Mr. Cutten and Inspector Hollis also spoke and Sergeant Waterman suitably replied.
