NEW REGENT
“SERENADE” TO-MORROW “The Way Of All Flesh,” Emil Jannings’s remarkable picturisation of a man’s dotvnfall, will be shown at the New Regent Theatre for the last time this evening. » Commencing to-morrow evening will be “Serenade,” the latest picture by Adolphe Menjou, a fascinating love story set to music. Menjou plays the role of Franz Rossi, a young Viennesse composer of ability, but very little money. Franz Rossi knows his music is good, even though his best friend and severest critic, Josef Bruckner, a cynical old ’cellist, refuses to agree with him. Franz is so busy composing masterpieces that he forgets to pay his rent. His train of thought is wrecked jvhen the landlady evicts him. Franz has a couple of porters carry his piano, and off he goes in search of another room. Despite the bad luck, there is a song in Franz’s heart, and it takes on added value when his eye falls on beautiful Gretchen Lenz, who is watering the flowers in front of a quaint ivycovered cottage. A notable cast has been assembled in support of Menjou and includes Kathryn Carver, Lawrence Grant and Lina Basquette. The second feature will be “Honeymoon Hate.” starring Florence Vidor, in a romantic comedy laid amid luxurious scenes in Venice, London and Paris. The pictorial programme will be preceded by a miniature musical comedy, “Chez Louise,” and full supporting music will be supplied by Leslie V. Harvey at the organ and Arthur G. Frost with the Regent Operatic Orchestra.
