BANNED
THAT Newmarket, in common A with other boroughs, should have a band, is the opinion of the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson. Last week circulars calling a public meeting in the council chamber on Monday night were sent to all householders. Punctually at eight o'clock the Mayor presented himself at the appointed place. Twenty minutes later a solitary ratepayer followed him. After waiting fruitlessly fer a further period, the Mayor rose from his chair and formally declared the meeting postponed. At present the subject of munic*pal bands is banned at Newmerk**t.
