Since the New York Stock Exchange authorities decided to close an hour earlier than usual, except on Saturdays, protests have come in from all sides concerning the loss of 39.3 per cent, of business, and the continued delay in clerical work and on the tape tickers. The exchange will return to the former hours next week. Brokers prefer overwork to the loss of business with the Far 'West. PEDIGREE JERSEY SALE (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Wednesday. Forty-one head of pedigree Jerseys on account of W. H. Miers, Almadale Homestead, Rototuna, were offered at auction to a representative attendance of buyers to-day. A champion bull, Kuki Majesty Owl, was knocked down to Mr. Ben Williams, Matangi, for 70gns. Of the stud cows offered pride of place in price was gained by Jersey Brae Seaweed, a daughter of the champion dam. Sea Breeze. Mr. H. Gothorpe, Rototuna, was the successful bidder at llOgns. The 18 stud cows sold averaged 405 gns. each. Ten yearling heifers averaged 36 l-sgns., and. the eight bulls all the sum of 1,442gn5. was collected from the 41 lets put up for sale. Other- stud cows to realise more than 30gns. were as follow:—Noble Maide, 34 gns.: Beauty’s Maid, Signs.; Empress Beauty, Signs; Aotea Althea, 31gns; Meadowvale La Fontaine, 44gns.; Jersey Brae Sylvia, 54gns.; Grand View Rose, 35 gns.; Pride Jersey Brae, SOgns.; Lady Fox, 41gns.; Madam Geddes, 53gns.; Beauty’s Fame, 35gns. The heifers were, for rising one year old, a very fine lot, and commanded good prices. Those sold at over 25gns. were:— Almadale Heatherhell, 31gns.; Almadale Ringlet, 35gns.: Almadale Gleam, 55gns.; Almadale Silver Dawn, 31gns.; Almadale Chelsea Maid, 47grt-s.; Almadale Dainty, 48gns.; Almadale Promise, 32gns.; Almadale Crystal, 30gns; Almadale Dimple, 30gns. The bulls to realise over 25gns. were:— Almadale Son, 54gns.; Almadale Fox’s Major, 40gns.; Almadle Coronet, 36gns.; Almadale Defiance, 34gns.; Almadale Sultan’s Noble, 47gns.
