ALTERING SECTION STOP

PROTEST AT NEWMARKET Certain shopkeepers at Newmarket are objecting to the proposed removal of the second tramway section stop. The tramway department wishes to end the section at the inward track, a short distance up Remuera Road for the Remuera cars, and opposite the Newmarket Hotel for cars from Epsom and Onehunga. The present section stop for outward-bound cars would be retained. An objection that business would suffer by the proposed alteration was made in letters from shopkeepers received by the Newmarket Borough Council last evening. In reply the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, stated that the council has already agreed to the change. The objectors have a right to be heard, however, and a poll may have to be taken. A clause in the deed of delegation states that the second section 3hall begin at the top of Symonds Street and end no further than the Newmarket railway station entrance. The question as to the power of the tramway department to change the section sto was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee.
