EXTENDING RAILWAY

TANEATUA TO OPOTIKI BAY OF PLENTY ACTIVE (From Our Own Correspondent) OPOTIKI, Wednesday. In connection with the proposed extension of the East Coast railway from Taneatua to Opotiki, a conference of local bodies was held this afternoon of representatives of the Opotiki Borough Council, the County Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Farmers’ Union. The position was discussed at length, and it was decided to take united action to urge the extension of the railway eastwards to Opotiki. A letter received from the Bay of Plenty Development League suggested that members of the league should interview Mr. K. S. Williams, Alinister of Public Works, and the Hon. A. D. McLeod, at Whakatane to-morrow, and asking if Opotiki would send representatives from the various local bodies to assist the league. It was unanimously decided to send delegates to support the league’s representations.
