SIXTY MINERS DEAD

The death roll in the mine explosion at Mather (Pennsylvania), in which bet-ween 200 and 300 miners were entombed, had reached 'lO up till a late hour on Monday night. There are 152 not accounted for, and little hope is help out of their being alive. Fifteen rescue parties were at work, but they were hampered by fire damp. Five of the 13 rescued men who are in hospital are not expected to live. Experts believe that none of those still entrapped below will be found alive, but all possible aid and rescue work is being extended by the Red Cross Society and other organisations and i by miners. The explosion occurred as the day and night shifts were exchanging places. It caught part of each group of workers. It is believed that many bodies are now beneath the debris.
