WAITEMATA BY-ELECTION

MR. R. R. FISHER’S CANDIDATURE Owing to the resignation of Mr. W. Oliphant, it will be necessary to hold a bv-election to fill the vacant Waipareira riding seat in the Waitemata County Council shortly. Among the candidate's standing is Mr. R. R. Fisher, a well-known resident of Henderson. Last evening Mr. Fisher addressed a large meeting at the Ferndale Hall. A vote of confidence and support moved by Mr. Driller and Mr. Watson was carried with enthusiasm. Mr. Fisher has taken a prominent part in the public life of Henderson, being instrumental in introducing electric light into the Valley and pushing the claims of the riding for main subhiglivvays. He is chairman of the Henderson Valley School Committee. Originally trained for the law, he has had very extensive experience and has represented in New Zealand some of the world’s largest engineering firms. Mr. Fisher’s policy is economical and efficient administration of the county. He considers overhead charges must be reduced to a minimum, waste eliminated and a comprehensive policy set up. Revenue must be spent on road maintenance and necessary works of access, and the Waipareira Riding must obtain its fair share of the funds from the Main Highways Board for its sub-highways.
