GOOD COMPETITIONS HELD AT MASTERTON
JUDGE PRAISES ENTRANTS The standard of the performances in the recent competitions at Masterton was praised by Mr. J. F. Montague, who returned to Auckland this morning. ~ ~ Mr. Montague, who was one of the judges, says that to three performers --Bessie Gawdon, Ismay Mcllrov and Miss Eona Purdy—he awarded the highest number of points he has ever given in all his career. There -was a record number of entiies and every afternoon and evening th' - ' theatre was packed. There were so many entries, indeed, that nerformances usually went on till after midnight, and once till after 2 a.m. Mr. Temple White, judge of music, and Miss Constance McDonald, judge of dancing, were as delighted as Mr. Montague with the work in their own sections.
