MRS. E. R. DAY The postmistress at Ruatangata. Mrs. E. R. Day, died on Saturday in the Whangarei Hospital, whence she had been a patient for several months* Mrs. Day, who was a daughter of the late Mrs. James Langridge, of Ruatangata, came to New Zealand 50 years ago, being then six years of age. Her husband died eight months ago. She leaves an adult family of six daughters and two sons. One son was killed in the Great War. MR. RICHARD BACH Mr. Richard Bach, aged 82, whose death is announced in Gisborne to-day, arrived in Auckland 70 years ago in the ship Gertrude, his father having brought in that vessel sections of a smaller vessel with which to institute j a shipping service on the New Zealand coast. The little boat was fitted together in Auckland and ran for many years between Auckland and Thames. MRS. E. BROWNE The funeral took place yesterday afternoon of Mrs. Ellen Browne, an old resident, of Auckland and widow of the late Mr. George E. Browne. Mrs. Browne, who died on Saturday, arrived in Auckland in May, 1874. She was a daughter of Mr. Henry Rogers, of Woodside Farm, Hautapu, and is survived by a son (Mr. L. H. Browne) and two daughters (Mrs. Frank Haynes and Miss Nellie Browne). Deceased’s late husband, who died in 1915, was a son of Mr. James Browne, one of the early editors of the “New Zealand Herald.” MR. A. SISAM At the age of 84, Mr. Alfred John Sisam died at his residence, Mount Eden, on Saturday. Deceased came to Auckland in September, 1862, by the Matilda Wattenbach, being one of the Albertland settlers. In 1863 he joined Nixon’s defence force, serving for 15 months. Later joining the Armed Constabulary, he served for 18 years, and was in several engagements in the Maori War. Subsequently he engaged in farming at Whakatane, and during the last 10 years had resided in Auckland. Mr. Sisam, who leaves a family of three sons and four daughters, was predeceased by his wife some years ago. One son, Mr. Kenneth Sisam, was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, and the other two, Messrs. L. and W. Sisam, are farming at Whakatane. The daughters are Mrs. J. C. Lamont, Mrs. E. O. Von Sturmer, and Miss E. M. Sisam, of Auckland, and Mrs. W. P. Browne, of Whakatane.
