TRAFFIC CONGESTION

Sir,— I think most people will agree it is high time that something was done to .relieve the tram congestion in Queen Street during the five o’clock rush. On an average night it takes from five to 10 minutes to travel from the foot of Queen Street to Wellesley Street. Why does the management persist in choking Queen Street and deliberately neglecting the Anzac Avenue outlet? There is quite a number of business people whose offices are situated in the new buildings in Anzac Avenue, and although the big Queen Street shops appeal successfully to “keep the trams in Queen Street” there is no doubt but that more homewardbound trams should be diverted to the Anzac Avenue outlet. Could anyone imagine such “Alice in Wonderland” conditions existing in siny big city? H. W. EDWARDS.
