PERSONAL NOTES

Mr. Fred Dacre, Christchurch, the veteran poultry judge, has been elected judge of ail poultry-classes at Hawera. We believe Mr. Dacre has now judged nearly a score of times at Hawera. Mr. J. W. Bralme, Point, Chevalier, who is a keen poultry enthusiast, recently purchased a valuable pen of Black Orpingtons of the late Mr. Montgomery’s strain, which he is mating to a wonderfully good cockerel from Mr. George H. Ambler’s wellknown strain. Mr. Bralme is a great believer in a combination of beauty and utility, and is looking forward to breeding something that can both lay eggs and win in the show pen. Poultry fanciers will be pleased to hear that Mr. Arthur Palmer is much improved in health and hopes to be sufficiently recovered to be able to judge the classes allocated to him at the Auckland show. We hear he has some extra good Brown Leghorns and Black Orpingtons, which he intends exhibiting during the coming show season. Mr. A. E. Hawkins, the secretary of the Rangiora Poultry Club was, in two days, successful in obtaining over £4O in special prizes for their annual show. We wonder what the members of the Auckland Club are doing in this direction. The special prize-list of any poultry show Is the greatest asset possible in the obtaining of entries.
