SHOULDER POSIES
WEAR EVERLASTING FLOWERS It is pleasing to note that the universal fashion of wearing shoulder posies, both for day and evening wear, is turning again toward natural flowers in place of artificial sprays. A charming idea from the centres of fashion which might well be adopted locally is to use the various types of flowers which are well-nigh everlasting. There are many varieties of native daisy-like straw flowers, or “everlastings,” which would make striking posies of a somewhat formal order, in white, pink, or golden. Then there are the numerous varieties of statice, the flowers of which last for many months out of water. The graceful violet-blue sprays of statice macrophylla, made up with fresh greenery from time to time, are a never-ending delight, while the rosepink, yellow, white and lavender tints of S. sinuata and other sorts provide sufficient variety to harmonise with almost any frock. The pale lavender sprays of statice caspia, in their fairylike daintiness, might well be mingled with all. All varieties of statice are also particularly useful for winter decoration in the home, when fresh flowers are scarce.
