HER 90TH BIRTHDAY

PAPATOETOE COLONIST ARRIVAL BY BLACK EAGLE Mrs. R. E. Taylor, who lives with her daughter, Mrs. F. H. Leonard, at Pine Lodge, Great South Road, Papatoetoe, celebrated her 90th birthday this week. Mrs. Taylor arrived in New Zealand by the sailing ship Black Eagle, which landed passengers a short time before the Albert Landers arrived. Despite her age, Mrs. Taylor can recall her early days in New Zealand, some of which were spent in barracks during the Maori wars. She smilingly recollects the time when water was retailed at 2s 6d a bucket. Together with her husband, Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Auckland Choral Society for 25 years, and was one of the soloists under Herr Schmidt.
