PAPAKURA ORPHANS’ CLUB

SUCCESSFUL OPENING The Papakura Orphans’ Club held its opening meeting on Thursday evening, when there was a record attendance. The past president, Bro. W. C. Wood, installed the new president, Bro. W. Iv. Francis. The president on behalf of the club presented Bro. W. C. Wood with a past-president’s gold badge. Visitors included representatives from Auckland, Otahuhu, Onehunga, Pukekohe, Devonport, Birkenhead and Northcote Clubs. The president, Bro. W. K. Francis, announced during the evening that the club had 50 new members. Items of a high standard were played by the Papakura Club’s Orchestra and visiting artists helped to make up an excellent evening’s entertainment. The next meeting will be on Saturday, May 26, when the official visitors would be the Hamilton, Morrinsville, Paeroa, Te Awamutu, and Te Aroha Clubs. The following rendered musical and humorous items: Bros. Len Kernot, Stan. Pritchard. Will Roberts, Jim Lonergan, W. Marks, and Harry Samuels.
