TESTING BIG DIRIGIBLES
EMPIRE AIR SERVICE FLIGHTS TO DOMINIONS British Wireless—Press Assn.—Copyright RUGBY, Thursday. In the House of Commons, the Secretary of State for Air, Sir SamLiel Hoare, was asked whether his attention had been called to a proposal to build a fleet of airships of 6,750,000 cubic feet capacity, for a transatlantic mail service. The Minister said the whole object of the experiment in connection with airships was to carry out exhaustive tests before incurring any further expenditure, and no public money would therefore be spent on the development of airships until the RlOl had carried out extensive trials, and had satisfied all the conditions contained in the specifications. In reply to a further question, Sir Samuel said the proposed use of the airship RlOl for flights to India and the Dominions would be under the control of the Air Ministry, with a view to the subsequent development of airship transport, preferably by private enterprise.
