SPEED ATTEMPT BANNED
CAMPBELL NOT DISMAYED WILL TAKE CAR ABROAD (United P.A. — By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, Thursday. The Royal Automobile Club has placed a ban on Captain Malcolm Campbell’s proposed attempt to regain the world’s speed record on Pendine Sands. He now must incur the great expense of taking his car and his organisation abroad. Nevertheless, he says he intends to try to win the record back. He also says he does not see why he should not be allowed to take the risk on Pendine Sands. An official of the club in defending the decision said there was only a bare seven miles of sand, with a river at one end and a wall of rock at the other. The club did not wish to appear bound by red tape, but it was felt that it was almost criminal to grant a permit. The official recalled that the racing motorist, Parry Thomas, was killed on Pendine Sands in March. 1927.
