BIBLE IN SCHOOLS

MEETING AT TOWN HALL Preparations have been made by the Auckland executive of the Bible-in-Schools movement to hold a demonstration in the Town Hall on Mav 29. Among the speakers will be the Hon. L. M. Isitt, M.L.C., and Professor Richard Lawson, M.A., of Otago University College, His Grace the Archbishop of New Zealand presiding. The Rev. E. O. Blamires, general organising secretary of the Bible in State Schools movement, at present visiting Auckland, met the local executive yesterday. Strong dissatisfaction was expressed at the failure of the Bill last session owing to the action of certain members of Parliament in not honouring their pledges given at the election. Comment was made upon the necessity of taking political action to forward the aims of the league, one member going so far as to suggest that supporters should be urged to refrain from voting at all at next election if the party to which their particular candidate belongs should refuse to adopt the Bible-in-Scliools platform. A remit was forwarded to the central executive urging them to consider the whole question of instruction to Bible-in-School supporters, should tho Bill not become law during the forthcoming session.
