A Naval Occasion

I REUNION OF OFFICERS I WHO SERVED IN WAR. I EIGHTH ANNUAL DINNER “And, rolling with laughter , at varying speeds The New Navy sped to the Old Navy's needs; Unblushingly paintless , by units or lots , Came drifters and trawlers and whalers and yachts .” At the Officers’ Club last evening, 50 officers, most of whom had chased submarines on the seven seas in England’s war-time fleet of small craft, held their eighth annual dinner. “It is not in the past that the value of these functions lies,” said the Gov-ernor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, who was the chief guest, “but in the future—in passing on to our successors the traditions we have made.” Lieut.-Commander C. H. T. Palmer, on behalf of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, wished good luck to H.M.S. Diomede, which sails on Saturday for England. Practically every branch of the naval service was represented. Among the guests were Commodore G. T. C. P. Swabey, Captain L. V. Wells, and other officers of the Diomede. Commander Bradley, of the Philomel, the chairman of the Navy League, Mr. John Alexander, and Lieut.-Colonel T. H. Dawson.
