"WHO SHALL ELECT?”

DOMAIN BOARD PUZZLED PUBLIC MEETING SUGGESTED “Why, people on a holiday trip here can go to a meeting and vote if they are in the vicinity,” declared Mr. W. J. .lordan at the meeting of the One Tree Hill Domain Board yesterday, when a circular from the Under-Secretary of the Lands Department advised that a new board should soon be appointed and that a public meeting be called for the purpose. Mr. A. S. Bankart (chairman): Who is to call the public meeting and who can vote. I am too busy to go to public meetings. If they want a change they can have it as far as I am concerned. Mr. J. Rowe: Anyone can go and vote, whether they live here or not. Mr W. C. Coldicutt, Mayor of Onehunga. said that no one wanted a change. There was an alternative provision in the act that if a public meeting could not be held the present board might be re-nominated. As one of the members not affected (as he held office by virtue of being mayor of a borough) he moved that the sitting board be renominated. Mr. Bagley said he had never heard of any previous proposal to call public meetings and Mr. Jordan said it seemed to be part of a new policy. The motion was carried.
