MT. ALBERT BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL TWO NEW BRIDGES APPROVED i The City Council has advised the Mount Albert Borough Council that ■ the new bridges in Mountain View ! Road and Warwick Street are estimated to cost £230 each, and that it is prepared to put the work in hand if Mount Albert contributes half the cost. It was stated at a meeting of the borough council lasts evening that the bridges, which had been in a dangerous condition, would be replaced by reinforced concrete structures. The council agreed to contribute as suggested, on condition that the cost of the bridges did not exceed £230 each. An offer of £25 was received from the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association to provide work for unemployed exsoldiers, with a £ for £ subsidy. The condition was made that the money should be utilised in additional work, and not existing road work. The council agreed to accept the offer. A petition was received from Richmond Road ratepayers, who sought permanent reconstruction of the road. The council decided to reply that the work was provided for on this year’s programme. A donation of £25 to the Auckland Institute and Museum was authorised. Application was made by the Auckland Rugby Union for playing grounds at Gribblehurst Park and the Morningside Reserve. It was decided to inform the body that its application would be dealt with when the areas were ready, and that contributions were being solicited toward the cost of construction. A similar application was made by the Auckland Hockey Association in respect of the Morningside Reserve, it being stated that it would be without its own grounds on October 31 next, and a temporary allotment was sought. It was resolved to forward a reply to the association in like terms to that to the Rugby Union. The joint committee recommended, in connection with the competitive plans for the lay-out of Gribblehurst Park and the Morningside Reserve, that lay-out A, from Messrs. Blake and Gilmour, be placed first for Gribblehurst Park, and lay-out B, by the same firm, be placed first for Morningside Reserve. The clans submitted by Messrs. Horrox and Ohlsen were placed second in each instance. The recommendation was adopted. The water and fire brigade committee reported on meter supply charges, and stated that an additional five fire alarms had been installed at the following places: A circuit—Haris ton Avenue, Mount Albert; B circuit—corner of Onslow and New North Roads: C circuit—corner of Troonville and Aroha Avenues; D circuit School Road, at junction Second Avenue, and Selkirk Road, at junction of Jesmond Avenue.
