At the opening ceremony last evening Mr. W. Jones, M.P., said that the Minister of Health, coming from the famous Waikato, was likely to have his faith in his own district shaken after seeing what North Auckland could produce. The Hon. J. A. Young complimented Whangarei on the very fine exhibition, especially the butter display, and said it augured well for the future of the North when it was >ble to make such a fine display, and he believed the North had a great future. Mr. W. A. Hanson, of Auckland, judge of the poultry section, said the poultry exhibits were exceptionally good, especially the white leghorns, and orpingtons. The white leghorn cockerel owned by Mr. A. Cafler was fit to win in any show in New Zealand. The orpington cockerel in the utility class owned by Mr. George Ambler was an easy winner. The brown leghorns were few but of very good quality, and those owned by Mr. H. K. May, in the latter class which won the North Island Championship, were particularly good. The bantams were also a splendid class. The birds owned by Mr. H. K. May, of Whangarei, were of very good quality. The show pigeons went to Auckland to-day, and will be released to-morrow at 11 a.m. to race to Whangarei. The first is expected to arrive about two o’clock.
